“Through the viewfinder” (TTV) photography utilizes the viewfinder of vintage TLR style cameras from the 1940′s-60′s. It is achieved by literally taking a digital photo through the viewfinder of these old cameras. The black edge you see is the outside edge of the viewfinder and the gritty, slightly skewed effect is intentional.

Back in 2007, this was a unique and novel approach to photography, seen primarily on Etsy. The advent of Instagram has since made this photographic style available to the masses with just the touch of a button.
